By the Ridgeway
Yesterday, our son said that there were a number of owls nesting and seen regularly in a wood on Hackpen Hill not far from Swindon. He suggested we should take a walk and see if we could get some photos. But last night the forecast for today was not good so I assumed it wouldn't happen.
But this morning was bright, even if cold so we ventured up onto the Ridgeway (long distance path that goes over the hill) and walked to the first of 3 clumps of trees. This is the view from within that clump looking towards the middle and the eastern one. No owls were seen, so we walked on past the second to the third before turning back. Not an owl in sight! But it was a good walk, and we got back to the car as the clouds rolled in and the first few drops of rain fell!
Just wondering as I sit and type this entry up whether we should have walked the opposite way to a smaller clump which doesn't quite sit on the hilltop - oh well, another time perhaps.
