At Pendock: Training ground....
Will Hunt has probably one of the best work spaces going.
I meet Will in the stable yard on one of the brightest days have had this winter. You could almost, just almost mistake it for spring. Will, busy working a pony in the round pen. Shifting, turning, bending. The pony's ears one forward, one back, concentrating and focusing. Its an intense 10 minutes. Short and sweet. A simple point made.
Will uses this 10 minute rule, and then puts the horse away. Ties him up again. The point being that the horse then has time to think. Time to process the learning. Wills a clear and methodical teacher.
The next horse is taken for a ride out. Its not thats its done in the round pen. Its more that just as much can be achieved out of it as in, once the initial ground rules are in place. A good example of this is the pen of pigs and field of geese up the lane. Their both a strange sight to a horse. They run, hissing, necks outstretched. Its another thing that the majority of horses coming to the yard perhaps wouldn't be exposed to at home. Its another tick box for the horse in training.
Will's training ground is vast and open. fields of open space. To lunge. To stop. To breathe. Room for a horse to make mistakes. Room for a horse to grow, and change. To grow bold, and confident for its return journey home......x
