On the way home

The Formula One season came to an end today (yet another indication of how the year is advancing, and of the onset of winter). It was a spectacular finish, run in a combination of daylight and darkness around the magnificent new circuit in Abu Dhabi. There were two main expectations going into the race: that Lewis Hamilton would pull away from the rest of the field from the very beginning, judging from his blistering qualifying lap yesterday, and that something exciting would happen in the tunnel leading out of the pits. So much for expectations. Hamilton never looked to have the edge on Sebastian Vettel, and he was forced to retire with suspected brake problems after his pit stop anyway. Seb went on to win comfortably, and to equally comfortably take second place in the Drivers Championship. Apart from that and the amazing light show from the LEDs on the roof of the Yas Marina hotel, the main talking point has to be the terrific battle between Mark Webber and Jenson Button which played out over the final laps. Their tussle continued right up to the very end, with Webber defending wonderfully and Button hassling him all the way. Great stuff.

I left Carl's place as soon as the race finished. I took my usual route, which brings me along the coast road at Sandymount. It was windy, but bright and dry. This red-shoed child was part of a family group out enjoying a breath of fresh air. Back home, work beckoned, and kept me occupied until the night was well advanced. I downed tools to watch Murder by Numbers on TV. It was okay. Passed the time anyway.
