The Romanians are coming....
This is Andrei our new starter. He's Romanian and proud ;)
He's worked with us on a loan basis for a few months but came on board as a full time member of our team this week. Before anyone starts harping on about immigration and British jobs, I've recruited a lot of people in my time and my view has always been to judge people on merit, skill, personality, experience and attitude. Not nationality, sex, race or whatever.
Anyway he's great, good experience and brilliant can do attitude..
I asked where he came from he said..
Here
I asked for 5 interesting things about Romania, he said..
1. Romania has one of the happiest cemeteries on earth - Tucked away in a tiny village of Maramures county, near the Ukrainian border, the Merry Cemetery (Cimitirul Vesel) is not only a very unique burial site, but also an open-air museum and a tourist attraction in its own right.
2. Romania boasts the world’s largest administrative building - Built by former Romanian dictator – Nicolae Ceausescu, Bucharest’s Palace of the Parliament – also known as People’s House – is the largest, heaviest and most expensive civil administration building on the planet.
3. The statue of Decebalus, Europe’s largest rock sculpture - Somewhere along the Danube, near the small city of Orsova, in south-western Romania, lies a 55-m high rock sculpture depicting Decebalus, the last king of Dacia. The monument can only be reached by boat.
4. The first city lit by electric street lamps in continental Europe - Timisoara, one of the most beautiful and vibrant Romanian metropolises, was the first mainland European city to be lit by electric street lamps, back in 1884.
5. Bran Castle (Dracula’s Castle) - Could you think of a better place to spend Halloween than Dracula’s Castle? Probably not, because nothing is better than a world-famous, historically-creepy castle tucked away in a Transylvanian forest. Visitors receive a hearty serving of bread and brandy, as traditional practice dictates.
Finally 5 things he likes about the UK (apart from working at Igentics of course).
1. People
2. Football
3. House Architecture
4. Lifestyle
5. Weather
He is also proving to be quite handy on the football table.
The other exciting bit of news is that we have won a bit of work we have been chasing for months, it is for a very worthy charity with some funding via the department of health.. Slowly, steadily etc.
So I think all that means I deserve a drink this evening.
