FROM THE TOP

Most people out there know that good photography equipment is expensive, but do they know just HOW EXPENSIVE? For today's topic "From the top" I thought I would provide a couple examples of just what having a top camera and lens really can mean to your wallet.

This camera body is a 1Ds Mark II...it's is an older model, and these days you can pick up a used one for somewhere around $800-$1,000. However, 5 years ago, this body alone would have set you back around $8,500. The lens is a 600mm, f/4 L IS, and price-wise, it is still at the top of the price heap at $20,600!!!

So the next time you are watching a football or basketball game and you see a photog along the sidelines with this huge white lens on his camera...you can be fairly sure he is toting somewhere in the neighborhood of $$15,000-$30,000 worth of equipment...just to get that ONE incredible shot!!
