#5 Engeyled

DDW February Challenge #5 Engeyled

Today's E word is from A Dictionary of Archaic and Provincial Words, Obsolete Phrases, Proverbs, and Ancient Customs from the Fourteenth Century. Here is how it appears:

Engeyled. Frozen; congealed.
Or stones engeyled falleth doune arow,
Whenne that hit hayleth, as hit is ofte seyne.

MS. Cantab. Ff.i.6,f.11.

This morning, the small pond in back of my office building had a thin coat of engeyled water, which was rapidly melting in the sunshine and warming temperatures. So thin was it that I was surprised at this little gull prancing around as if it were a skating rink. He looked like he was doing Tai Chi there for a while before he sauntered off these engeyled waters to join his friends in the field.
