Melbourne Cup

I wasn't aware that the whole country came to still to watch this horse race. Well, it did. Not only Melbourne gets the whole day off, plenty of shops closed, women got dressed up in proper dresses, hats and feathers and that's everywhere, not just on the races. I had a hot chicken, salad and champagne lunch in the office and then at 2.30 watched The Race. My beginner's luck didn't work and I didn't win any of several office sweeps.

Just to be fair I must mention the the whole of South Australia gets a day off for the Adelaide Cup.
