Warm glow
Well of course it wasn't warm at all. There was a strong wind blowing up the Firth of Clyde; it had been on our faces all the way from Toward school down to the gatehouse of Castle Toward and then, somehow, had curved round to follow us as we headed towards the Ardyne track. But that late sun, suddenly emerging low in the sky at the end of a showery day, made us feel suddenly warm - and I loved the contrast of the pale golden trees with the dark skies over the hills.
And even as it grew dark, a couple of hours later, the birds were singing as if it was spring.
