"Naw,naw, naw pal, we dinnae take Danish money."

So here we are in Clark's Bar on Dundas Street. The kind of place where it's never been much of an issue handing over Northern Irish bank notes. Until this one.
Northern Ireland, like Scotland, has always had its own banks that issued their own sterling notes. Mostly they used to sound like they were Northern Irish banks; Ulster Bank, Northern Bank, Allied Irish Bank.
But chuck in the banking crisis and a series of events that includes the biggest bank raid in the history of banks and suddenly what is and always has been my dad's bank does indeed sound decidedly Danish.
I have to admit the bloke with the beard looks a bit Scandinavian too, even though he's J.B. Dunlop, the tyre guy from Scotland, who moved to Downpatrick. But try explaining all that to the barman in Clark's after a couple of pints.
A veey pleasant evening though, catching up with old chums and former colleagues.
