Arbutus monster
This old arbutus tree looked like a prehistoric monster rising from the forest floor. Perhaps for maximum effect I should have taken it on a suitably atmospheric foggy day (of which we've had plenty of late).
For those not familiar with the arbutus, I have added the reference to wikipedia. I love the trees for their feel - very tactile.
According to wikipedia: Arbutus menziesii is an evergreen tree with rich orange-red bark that when mature naturally peels away in thin sheets, leaving a greenish, silvery appearance that has a satin sheen and smoothness.[5] The exposed wood sometimes feels cool to the touch. In spring, it bears sprays of small bell-like flowers, and in autumn, red berries.
