Middlemuir Peat Moss

In our village home owners used to pay feu duty to the local landowner and were then entitled to cut a seam of peat. When I came at first it was quite common to see whole families out getting in a stock for winter. The smell of burning peat is glorious but was always far too dusty for me. Now cutting here has stopped as it was getting too near the water level.
