Wild Weather
and stormy seas continue.
Stopped off at Blackpool Sands on our way back from Dartmouth Lidl-and-Sainsbury's trip, in a very brief sunny interval. The high tides have washed the beach right up on to the carpark behind the cafe and left heaps of shingly sand all over the place.
The waves were massive and every so often one would come foaming right up the beach. The gulls (as you can see here) are loving it. Presumably it washes their dinner conveniently inshore.
When I first came to this part of the world (visiting Mr PP's family) 40 years ago, there was a slope down to Blackpool Sands several yards long and rising about 10-15 feet to reach the concrete around the cafe. That rise has been steadily decreasing over the years and the ramp consequently shortening. Today the ramp was completely hidden and the beach washed level with the concrete. And so our shoreline continues to erode. I'm glad we're on high ground, even if we feel a little cut off from the rest of the country.
NOTE There is an interesting illusion with all these angles that makes it appear skew-whiff, but if you look closely, the horizon is level - just as it came out of the camera.
