Fluff and nonsense
The girl that has been part of the English department for the last four years has today been promoted to the most irritating idiot in Cairo. Having come back from a three-week wedding break, she was visibly perturbed to see that I have completely reorganised the place in her absence by doing things like thinking, talking to people, requesting important stuff and generally attempting to run a professional(ish) outfit. Her response to this was to throw her weight and experience around in an attempt to hide the fact she is a lazy little shit. Due to her very confident persona and tendency to gossip, however, she effortlessly seems to win over the Egyptian ladies with her bullshit. Things not being able to happen without her knowledge/say-so has obviously been her hook in the past with various bosses and her gossip-fuelled air-headed attitude to teaching English - "It's just a bit of fun", "Don't trust the girls" (possibly one to take on board as they are quite flirty, in an eyelash fluttery sort of way) "It's all about how you look" - has been noted.
Attempts to undermine me got well underway today as she managed to stop my implementation of the new timetable by using one of our teachers to cover a class she couldn't be arsed doing. Observing that I have arranged for tables and chairs to be put in classrooms that have lain empty for years, she interrupted a lesson I was teaching (by standing outside the door and beckoning me with her finger) to say that she will 'allow me' to use the classrooms next week. Gee, thanks. Noticing that her timetable is extremely light (she teaches just four classes a week with a day off on Thursday), that Wednesdays are the worst day for us, and that she used a member of our staff when she shouldn't have, I asked if she wouldn't mind helping us out in a one-off cover period. She politely refused (claiming she was too busy) before settling down to three hours internet surfing and wedding photo displaying.
She will regret playing me for a fool, I guarantee you. Plans are already underway to shake her fluffy little world up a little.
