We moved!

The new house is fairly lovely, a freshly renovated/restored 1910s weatherboard cottagey house, with polished wooden floorboards, a gas fire, and lots of space. I feel like the owners could probably quite easily get more money for it, but I'm glad they're not asking - it comes just within my budget now. It comes with whitegoods, so we didn't have to worry about them, but we did spend all day running around town collecting the big furniture we've been buying off gumtree and from friends for the past month. By the evening the house had a functioning kitchen and living area. Alex's parents are down to help her move, and mine joined us for hard-earned takeaways for dinner (classy burgers, mmm). But there was also a surprise planned for Alex. She'd missed her day off work for her birthday earlier in the week, so I invited a few people (not too many though) around to surprise her with cake! It was very successful, she didn't have a clue, and we acquired some willing helpers to assist with some final furniture bits (well, helped me assemble my bed at least).
