A sobering reminder, this February morning, of the danger of these steps leading down to the shore at the Joppa Band Stand. These flowers are still festooned sadly on the railings reminding us of the knife edge along which we all live our lives. A 53-year-old man whose body was found at an Edinburgh beach died in a tragic accident, police have confirmed.

Mark Fraser, from Coillesdene Grove in Joppa, was understood to have been walking home along Esplanade Terrace after a Christmas night out.

It is believed he fell down steep concrete steps leading to Portobello beach. His body was found at about 06:30 on Sunday, 22nd December, 2013.

Police Scotland said there were no suspicious circumstances.
