BIZARRE
No sooner had the Small Tortoiseshell butterfly in my office died than I find another Peacock butterfly in the bedroom. This is the third butterfly this winter, after spending my whole life not finding butterflies overwintering in the house (or even visiting in the summer).
However, meles pointed me to this programme which was on this morning, and I now know that they're dormant, not hibernating, and that when I find it again (because it has disappeared now), I should capture it and put it in the shed, or somewhere that's cool and dry, and that it is perfectly capable of defending itself from predatory mice, blue tits or even chickens! Who knew?!
