Lowther Castle.

The Castle stands on a site occupied by the Lowther family for over 800 years.
Completed in 1806. The last resident was the Yellow Earl, who finally left the castle on New Years Day 1936.
The castle was used by the Army during the second world war and returned to the Lowther family in poor condition.
They decided to leave the castle shell and removed the roof in 1957.
They are now restoring the gardens.
