World War I memorial c. 1921
When I first started on blipfoto, I had posted a picture of the war memorial in our local town - Rushden.
This view is different - it is from St. Mary's Church and looking down towards the memorial. This memorial was designed by a local and built by Morris of Rushden, to commemorate Rushden men who died in the First World War (1914-18). This memorial was unveiled in 1921. The names are listed in alphabetic order on eight vertical panels around the memorial.
This page of the local history club has more details about this memorial.
The local council looks after it very well - every summer, I notice some scaffolding around it and for 3-4 days, it is repaired and cleaned.
