Old pattern

I have been going through some old protocol books for the past few weeks. This beautiful pattern in the leather caught my eye. The book is from the early 19th century and most likely in it's original binding.

The books have so many different charachters. Some are beautifully written and in original leather binding. Others are hard too read because of the sloppy handwriting and are falling apart. I do admit I make asumptions from it on what kind of characher the official was that handled the books in it's time, especially from their handwriting.
