Cotswold Surprise!
Today I finished my holiday and had to leave my cosy cottage. I hope I can return one day!
I drove through a few of my favourite Cotswold villages and then headed south on a road I hadn't driven on before. I was heading to the Chippenham/Bath area to visit a family friend for the afternoon.
As I was driving through what was still a very rural area, I was surprised when I thought I saw an aircraft tail in a field ahead. I thought I was seeing things but sure enough, as I got closer I saw that it was none other than a 747 and it was one of various large aircraft. What in the world were they doing here? I discovered later that this is Cotswold (Kemble) airport, previously home to the RAF and USAF, as well as the Red Arrows. Currently it is a general aviation airport but is also the base of Air Salvage International which stores and recycles retired airliners.
As an airline geek, this surprise on my journey made me very happy!
