Brains Green
Today I had the opportunity to work from a partners office in Gloucester - yey no bridge toll! They are based in Twigworth just outside the city, where the fields have been filled with water since before Christmas. I was stunned by the extent of the floods today, and with high tide threatening to spill the water into the road I chose to make a swift exit early. Driving home in daylight was a novelty, and so I took a detour through the Forest of Dean to make the most of the evening sunlight.
My route took me through a small village called Brains Green, which is just outside Blakeney. I say village - its more a collection of ten houses, with a shop in a lean-to on someones house. My mum grew up here, and my nan and grandad lived here until they needed to be closer to town - its pretty rural. I have some wonderful childhood memories here, of playing in the brook (out of shot) and long walks through the fields collecting cowslips and buttercups with my cousins. My grandparents are no longer with us, but Brains Green has the power to make me smile and cry all at the same time from the memories. Sadly the sun was going down when I got here so it was a quick snap - the 40mph sign doesn't really blend with the scenery but I hope this gives an idea of what a lovely place it is :-)
