Irony

Do you recognize the art on the sign that proclaims the "Beauty" of Toronto's financial district? Probably not, but I've blipped it before, most recently here.

It was my favourite example of Art Deco in downtown Toronto. Group of Seven no less. And it is gone. The entire building demolished to make way for an enormous 50 storey glass tower.

They were required to dissemble the facade and to incorporate it into the new building, but it is not the same, any more than it would be to destroy a famous painting and reassemble it by completing a paint by number.

Sad.
