Where the Light Gets In

London Weekend, Day 2: Blipmeet #1

Sunday was really good, too: I met Jan (jinglyjan) at the Science Museum where we visited the Only In England exhibition, which I found really interesting. The Tony Ray-Jones moved me more perhaps, though Martin Parr's are of course really good too but seemed more abstract to me, a little less rooted in the lives of the people they show. Especially interesting perhaps was the third part of the exhibition, consisting of a body of Ray-Jones' work selected and printed by Parr. The wall at the end of the gallery, showing prints of the negatives to reflect the selection work done by Parr, is a really compelling thing. It shows how difficult it is to make a selection, especially of course when the material you have to choose from is so good to begin with!

We then wandered a bit in South Kensington looking for a place to eat and chat and finally chose a Lebanese restaurant where we ate (of course) and talked for a few hours before parting ways.

Of course we couldn't resist taking each other's portrait.

A very good day indeed!
