Shirley Temple Black, our iconic American child star has died at 85. My mother was 13 in 1934, when things really took off for Shirley . This blue glass milk mug was hers.

I'm watching Olympic women's quarter final hockey after some early shopping at Trader Joes.

Today I plan to finish Transatlantic , by Colum McCann. His lyrical use of language has kept me reading and re-reading passages over and over. I'll happily head to the library for more.

This day came in with wind chill temps below zero F. It hasn't warmed up much by noon. A wintery mix of heavy snow, sleet and rain on tap for Thursday. The nasty weather system is already moving in and causing havoc in the south.
