Rubbing House

Right at the end of the racecourse at Epsom, high on the Downs, there is a pub called "The Rubbing House". It is situated where originally there was a small building where the horses were rubbed down after the ordeal of their race. Later a more permanent building appeared, serving ale to the racegoers. The present building dates from 1866 and has an ornate balcony built to give racegoers a better view of the winning post. The pub has been extended in recent years to become an excellent eating place with a good menu.
I took a quick blip before we went inside with friends for lunch. It wasn't until I got home that I discovered the camera was still set to b/w for Mono Monday. So we have Mono Tuesday too. So careless.
