Chilly Day For A white wedding
We have a significant wedding anniversary coming up very soon and today I was looking through our old photo albums for a suitable photo to post to facebook for this week’s “Throwback Thursday”. I thought this one would be a good one. These are the “almost” attempts at a group picture, way back in the day when you just clicked and hoped for the best. No retakes. No photoshop. Just one shot and done and fingers crossed.
This reminded me of how different weddings were then to now. We just went to one recently, and there was a whole website set up for the “Big Day” with “How We Met” pages “How He Proposed” pages, “How We Planned The Wedding” pages and “The Bridal Party” pages.
For those of us who didn’t have the benefit of that, back in the day, here’s what I would have reckoned ours would have looked like…
‘How we met” - We were next door neighbours and he usedto spy on me sunbathing topless in the garden.
“How He Proposed” - He didn’t. She did. Several times before he finally said yes.
“How We Planned The Wedding” - In one hell of a hurry! We had to get married as he had got a job in the USA and they only gave visas to spouses, not co-habiting significant others. He got the job offer in December, we got married in February and emigrated to the USA with our cats in April! Quick Register Office wedding, for obvious reasons, 17 people there including us, photos in a studio as it was pelting down with rain, a reception banquet in a chinese restaurant followed by a knees up at our house in the evening and an overnight ferry to France for our honeymoon in a “manoir” overlooking a chemical factory, where we spent 4 glorious days in bed with flu!!!!
“The Wedding Party” - Me and Tom, My parents and brother, Tom’s sister and daughter, Tom’s friend Steve with the wild hair, My friend Sarah, Tony and Karen, Irene and her girls, Gill, Judith and (someone you might recognise Caroliner70) James!
