Goodbye
I really didn't think that I would get the opportunity to photograph any more Sandhill Cranes this season. They have been seriously Kettling Up now for the past week. Usually you hear them and when you look up they are waaaay up in the sky. The group or Kettle flies around in large circles making a lot of noise, I guess to let everyone know that they are preparing to begin their Northern Migration.
This morning I was inside working on what was to be today's blip, which actually had nothing to do with Birds! I heard the cranes and rushed outside with my camera, thankfully I had plenty of battery and space on my card and my 70-300mm was already on the camera. What I saw above me was simply Amazing.
I've seen Sandhills kettling for years, usually you see maybe 100 or so…gathering. This morning the Sky was full of Cranes. I'm not exaggerating when I say that there were
THOUSANDS. They kept coming, in large Waves, Kettling right over my house! Their calls were almost deafening! Connie took some video with her phone, but I couldn't stop shooting. I shot 500+ photos! This Spectacle continued for about 15 minutes.
The Cranes called their Goodbyes and headed North Northwest.
My Flickr Account is Finally up and running. Look HERE to see other Sandhill Crane Kettling photos. Hope you enjoy them. I wish I could put their voices on here too :)
