Never Used

Selling off a whole lot of stuff, including a set of chains for Mum and Dad's Landcruiser. Never used, as you can see.

He did believe in being prepared.

Easy to not take him seriously in later years (silly old bugger, what's he doing driving that thing?) but back in the early 1950's (1952 I think...) he was something of an exception having saved up and imported one of the early Series I Landrovers into NZ. Suddenly he became very much sought after in the NZ Alpine Club for getting a lift up otherwise endless boulder riverbeds to access the climbing in the Southern Alps.

The Landrover was called Thumper 1 (after the rabbit in Bambi) and was faithfull until 1972 when he traded up to a Series III. Never seemed to be quite the same, though. Thumper 1 was the first car I drove, sitting in Dad's lap whilst he operated the pedals (I was a little too short at that point) and avoided the larger trees in the way.

He was a good Dad. Now how did I get from Chains to Dad?
