Taylor River - Late Summer
Now that I have returned home to Blenheim I am getting back into the routine of regular walks with the dogs along the Taylor River tracks. We tend to go to the less manicured, open countryside areas of the river tracks. It is a lot more interesting for the dogs when they are out in the country. Yesterday morning we arrived fairly early and as we got out of the vehicle a hare raced across the open grassy area near the car-park. The dogs took off on a long chase. They were going “yike, yike, yike” as they raced along. Needless to say the hare out-ran them. We see lots of a rabbit where we go but that is the first time I have ever seen a hare so close to town.
I was pleasantly surprised to find that the river had running water in it. The river-bed is usually as dry as a bone at this time of the year. Indeed it was dry this time last year not long after I started blipping. So it is a most unusual season. This image was captured on the true right bank looking north towards the Richmond Range. You can see the water in the river. The fennel is in flower and makes for a nice sweet-smelling display.
