Lorgnette

An antique tortoiseshell-handled lorgnette. It's ingeniously fashioned, so that when the lenses are not in use, they fold in half and tuck themselves neatly into the handle.

At this very moment, the long-awaited grandson has finally embarked upon his voyage into the world, and I have become an utterly foolish, weepy woman. I am occupying my time by polishing silver (?), organizing drawers, making shopping lists, and bursting into tears at the slightest provocation. At this rate, my eyes will be so red-rimmed and puffy by the end of the day that I shall probably find myself in need of this contraption!
