From March 1999. There was one more strip before this, where Tad gets a letter from his mother telling him not to come home. And then we had a week off, and when campus reopened I started this storyline - one of the students in our Pride group got one of these letters and spent his break hiding out under his bed because he had nowhere else to go. I think I felt like I should address something more serious now and then, and parental acceptance was always the big one. Things are a lot different now, but telling your mom is still probably the hardest thing a gay person does.
