Why fish-eye?

Today was not a day for outside photography. I was waiting in for a delivery man and playing with my camera settings. By the way, can anyone tell me why some delivery companies can specify the hour in which they will deliver, and even the driver's name (my driver was Terry) but other companies expect you to wait in between 7am and 6pm. Anyway, having been informed by my nephew that fish-eye lenses are the ultimate in cool, I found that my camera has a fish-eye effect setting. So I tried it. Not sure that I get the point really, but at least I've given it a go.
