Waimangu Volcanic Valley

Today was one of the highlights of our holiday in New Zealand. Before the eruption of Mt Tarawera in June 1886 there was no hydrothermal activity in the area, now a line of craters have been formed by the violent eruption. This wetland area in the photo is on the valley floor, presumably not too hot for the wildlife!
