Overly sentimental?

I have been a great fan of John Le Carre since I read "Call For The Dead" in my last year at school. I have read this book before and seen the movie but I can't bring myself to read the last couple of pages since Leamas ends up being killed, betrayed in a way by his own side. That's what I like about Le Carre you actually become involved with the characters and sadly many of them do end up being killed, though not in a Robert Ludlum sort of way.
