Tomato Experiment Result

These are the three most advanced of my standard red varieties. They are Early Girl hybrids. The two in front were leaf trimmed (individual leaves were pruned back by half to two-thirds- here for explanation). Being closer they look larger, but the untrimmed plant at the rear has more fruit, and at more levels. It is the same on the other side with the Early Money plants. The biggest, most productive plant was untrimmed, while the trimmed ones are so-so. Leaf pruning was not beneficial to the heirloom varieties. My conclusion is that the results of the experiment did not support the leaf trimming theory. I would point out that this is not the same as removing lower leaves as the plant grows. I kept doing that with all the plants.

Her Ladyship was taking advantage of a rare bit of sunshine.
