Worst. Valentine's Day. Ever
Well, my day started off with a lot of excitement and anticipation- I was traveling to Siem Reap to see the incredible Angkor Wat temples. In addition to meeting a friend, and fulfilling my nerdy archaeological curiosity, I was pumped to get out of Jakarta and see another part of Southeast Asia.
I left early, and on my way to the airport got the dreaded text: flight was canceled due to volcano eruption at Mount Kelud. Of course, I feel bad complaining about a grounded flight when people are struggling to survive. But I also really wanted to go on this trip.
After standing in a line for 3 1/2 hours (and being cut by pushy people), I made it to the counter. There was only one counter in the whole airport serving customers with canceled flights. I couldn't rebook because when it came down to it, I'd have less than a day there, assuming the flights even take off tomorrow. I got a refund, though I was cautioned that it could take 1-3 months to go back on my card, so I'm not holding my breath.
I've had a lot of travel- related disappointment since arriving here. I'm really hoping that my trip next weekend to Balikpapan to see the orangutans goes smoothly. Not sure I can take another botched trip :(
