Tasman regional Young Farmer Competition

We had our local A & P Show today. Added into the usual side show entertainment and stalls was the regional finals of the Young Farmer of the Year competition. This photo shows two of the contestants trying to set up k-line irrigation bods. The fella on the left was getting drenched from the competitor on the right, but I'm sure he didn't mind considering how warm it was this afternoon. Along with doing this task, they had to (amongst other things) prune a tree, put up an electric fence, ear tag a deer and cow using the correct tags, put two tyres on a quad bike, and bone a rack of lamb. Tonight they dress up in a suit and tie and go to the local theatre to participate in a question and answer session.

The winner of this regional final goes forward to the national finals being held later in the year.

The whole event was filmed by a TV crew this afternoon. We will be able to watch it on TV in May.
