Forest Giants in Prices Valley

Today's shot was taken on the way back from friends who live over the hill in Prices Valley.

It's a very different valley from ours, with lower hills but steeper sides - it's more V-shaped than the U-shaped Kaituna (for all you geographers out there). The other thing which I love about Prices Valley is its wonderful native bush; it's more untamed than what we have here in Kaituna. This shot illustrates this well, as these huge podocarps - Kahikatea and Totara - standing proud along the valley floor alongside the gravel road that winds its way up from the main Akaroa highway.
