The sun shines through

The forecast was for another day of cloud and snow. We had seen a distant chairlift through a gap in the mist. It was working but we couldn't work out how to get there.
As we rode our lift up again patches of blue sky appeared! Then it grew into a hole in the cloud. Then a glimmer of sunlight shone through. Our hearts lifted!
As we skied off and looked towards the distant lift we could suddenly see a huge slope leading into a broad bowl. It was well prepared, mostly unskied and until a few minutes ago completely invisible in the mist.
We carved our way down in fast curves, whooping with joy and then spent the next hour or two skiing the big bowl. The cloud continued to break up and we saw the distant mountains and peaks for the first time. The day just got better and better.
It was a wonderful day and all the more so for being completely unexpected.
