It could have been so much worse

Today was supposed to have been the first long bike ride of the year in sunshine, but it was not to be ....
We woke up yesterday to find the shed roofing felt in the garden and a couple of damaged fence panels well and truly wrecked.
So today turned into a short bike ride in the sunshine followed by an afternoon in the garden with a bow saw and a hammer.
Still ... compared to many people, we have escaped very lightly indeed.

First attempt at something I saw demonstrated at the local camera club:
find a subject with minimal colour but with texture
take a monochrome shot
scrunch the levels all into the middle of the histogram aiming for a 'soot and whitewash' outcome.
