St James-the-Less Church, Cruden Bay

Sorley had his chum from rugby over to play for a few hours this afternoon, when we dropped him back off in Cruden Bay we stopped at the Church as the lights had just come on to light up the church and there was still a lovely glow in the sky.

I've always known this church as "Cruden New Church" however it's proper title is St James-the-Less Church, it was opened in 1843 and its tall tower and spire can be seen for miles around.

From the Church Website:- "The baptismal font, a striking feature inside the church, dates from 1012 and came from the chantry chapel built by a Scottish King and a Danish Prince after a battle on the beach at Cruden Bay, which marked the end of Viking involvement on the north-east coast of Scotland.

The present church replaced a previous one, which was built on the same site in 1765. Before then, during the years of persecution of the Episcopal Church after the Battle of Culloden, the congregation met among the sand-dunes on the beach."

Must actually have a look inside the church at some point!
