Tufted Evening Primrose
Underneath the red
bougainvillea, a little
charmer crowds the walk

It is an unusually cloudy day today. It is most odd to have a grey sky in Yuma. It does, however, make it easier to take photos of white flowers.
This short, little Arizona native plant popped up in my backyard. It seemed to emerge from the litter created by the bougainvillea along the back fence. This primrose opens in the late afternoon, attracting the "hummingbird moth" that I posted earlier here. When it is past its prime it turns pink and wilts. Each blossom is about 4 inches across and made of four heart-shaped petals. There is a light fragrance that should be noted in the night, but it cannot compete with the lemon blossoms at the moment.
