What can I say? There was a rickshaw strike today. One among many of the reasons that I love this particular hotel is that it is not right in the middle of Jaipur, but a bit outside all of the major bazaars. Another reason is that it is very beautiful and they are incredibly conscious of details. The corners of my room are all painted like this, the space over the bed is painted similarly. And the food is really good. The couple who run it are really nice. Generally I stay here until I get a permanent apartment set up somewhere else, but I was going to be here such a short time this time around that I just booked it for the month. It's quiet and peaceful and friendly. But it does make it kind of rough when the rickshaws don't run. I walked to the fotocopier and a couple of shops around here, paid bills, caught up on some writing (sort of), had afternoon tea in my room and took pictures of the walls.
Turns out that earlier in the afternoon (when I am rarely sitting in my room) there are a number of other birds in that tree outside my room going crazy: the red vented bulbul, possible some sort of small tit, and the most delicate little doves. I'm still waiting to see a Hoopoe. Saw one outside of Delhi once, but never here.
Tomorrow I'm taking two other teachers that I just met out to see Indigo dying in action. I'll take pics then.
