Romanesco Cauliflower...

I found this wonderful vegetable in an independent greengrocer's, Elliott's, in Chorlton, Manchester. I love the colour. Some people regard it as a cauliflower, others think of it as a version of broccoli. Either way it's a wonderful combination of the natural world and maths. The vegetable is made up of smaller versions of the whole thing. Each of the smaller versions is made of even tinier versions which, using a microscope, you would see were made of even tinier versions yet. How far does it go? To the atomic level?
