My Word – What Is It?
Today we made a pilgrimage to Peterborough City Hospital (routine maintenance) and not wishing to miss the chance of a blip I ‘telephoned’ this ‘sculpture’ on the way in, then again on the way out. The winning shot was on the way out with a little more light on the subject, not that we were getting much through that cloud anyway.
A couple of enhancements from Photoshop including destroying two seats that were annoyingly in the foreground and I give you – well we’ve never been too sure what the heck it was meant to be. A snow plough and wheat sheaf? Two arrows sinking into a ship’s bow?
In fact the first guess was closest and it apparently represents a plough breaking the ground ready to take the wheat seed with hidden undertones of an open book – hence its name “The Word”!? If you don’t believe me follow this link. A little help from Google revealed that it was nicked from in front of the Methodist Publishing House headquarters in Peterborough when they built PCH. If you ask me I recon the Methodist Publishing House were glad to get rid of it. Well at least it’s a talking point for the inmates at the hospital.
It's not a lot better in large. Alternatively try the 'abstract' version from the opposite side that I took on the way in.
