PACIFIC CSI

One of my Gentleman popped into the office today and I happened to mention that I'm hoping to get up to SHILDON RAILWAY MUSEAM at the end of the week to see the Pacific Class A4's before they all go back from whence they came, a few minutes later he turned up with the photo shown. The story is that his father used to be into photography back in the thirties & forties, did his own darkroom work and so forth, a couple of weeks ago John found a box full of old negatives & chose some to get printed up locally of which were two of railway engines on the sidings at Cambridge, He knew that the photo was taken in 1948 but was wondering which of the A4 class loco's his old man had snapped. Cutting a long story short I scanned the photo and enlarged it enough to see the engine's number on the plate at the front (just below the stack), then a quick internet search brought up the Name Sir Ralph Wedgwood, this name was used in 1944 to replace the engines original title Herring Gull, theres a very interesting website about The Gresley A4 Pacific's here, the six surviving engine will be on display till Saturday if your up in the north east, should be an interesting visit.
