My new place of work
My first day at my new job as Oracle DBA at Fujitsu Services at the Birmingham Business park. This started off with me having to learn to drive an Astra 2.0 DT,i which has no hand brake, which was the hire car I have been given until I can order my new lease car, it seems to work out when it needed to stop all by itself, but if it forgets you can press a button.
Once I got the idea of how the car worked, it only took 10 minutes to get to the Fujitsu security gate (see blip) where a security guard took all my details before letting me in. Then I parked in the visitors car park and walked to reception where I was collected by a DBA called Stuart who took me upstairs, we had a quick chat and a coffee from the machine, then various other DBA arrived, then about 10ish Stuart and another DBA took me down to the Secure DBA area to say hello to the Secure DBA's then popped down stairs to the canteen for a StarBucks coffee. We when back upstairs, where Stuart informed me that Rosemary Kell from Glasgow who was on her way started at 5am this morning and she was to start my induction, she arrived at about 10:30 and she sorted me a laptop out and temporary ID from a resources lady called Kath, who took my picture for my new ID which should take about a week.
Then we setup the laptop onto the email system to sort out payroll details etc and go thru the day 1 of induction, which was a lot of Power point presentation and reading and then completing forms to gain access to Oracle and the time sheet system, then Rosemary took me down to the canteen for a sandwich. I took the opportunity to put a parking sticker on my car and move it out of the visitors spot to the staff parking area and tested out my ID card on the way back.
I finally got to the end of the day 1 induction tasks by about 4ish then Rosemary ordered a mobile phone for me which should come tomorrow and I ended the day with a 40 minute "Avoiding anti trust business cases", which had a test which I passed with 80%.
Then we ended the day with a few of the DBA's having a chat about various projects going on and I left about 5:30pm to go home via Emma's to pick up leaving card and gift's then back home by 5:45pm.
Then finally parked up the car had dinner, then tested laptop connected okay from home Wifi to end to a successful day, now looking forward to tomorrow.
