To Spend a Penny

I am from an age when I well remember the use of a penny (1d.)

You see here a small gathering of people in front of our Parliament Building called Tynwald. They are there to present a petition to the parliament about the sudden and (some would say) unjust imposition of a levy on all householders who have a drainage connection.

The petition contains the signatures of about 6,300 people and which by Isle of Man standards is large enough to fall in to the category of open revolt.

The cameras are about to start running....

Some may have a bedroom tax. We now have a toilet tax or loo levy. I have even heard it described this morning as Pay As You Go.

There are some who would say that the future introduction of stealth taxes of this nature will be bog standard.

Mind you, one would get an idea of how low morale is here, when one wonders where all the letters went from the sign on the wall in front of you and how this is somehow now considered to be quite normal.
