Aftermath

During Friday night's storm parts of the Island sustained considerable damage along the coastline.

The Fisherman's Cottage at Shanklin Chine is a well known thatched Pub and restaurant dating from 1817 enjoying a normally idyllic position on the beach. It suffered damage and flooding during the storm and the concrete foreshore was totally trashed.

Just beyond the cliffs in the background an area known as the Undercliff has become unstable with nine houses having to be evacuated with a very real risk of the area falling towards the sea.
