Ahhhh! So Near, Yet So Far...
The expression on this polar bear says it all...
After a fabulous day exploring the fjords including a new extreme winter sport which involves trying to get down a steep icy slope with a top covering of fresh snow to get to a lovely cafe, we went out for the second time in search of the lights.
As we set of it was snowing, but the wind was blowing, so maybe it would move the snow laden clouds away. We tried a couple of different places and ended up in a very special place on the way to Tromvik.
Here we set up camp and watched and waited. Above us there were plenty of clouds, but we were told that there was good activity. If only the clouds would let us see...
In the end we got a couple of glimpses of the Northern Lights, but the clouds were more determined. It just makes you realise what an amazing phenomena it is and you have to watch, wait and be lucky too.
I guess the good news is the fact that we have an 'excuse' to go back and spend more time in this wonderful country.
